Marketing for Local Business
Sometimes we go about marketing for local business on purpose and sometimes it just happens by accident let me show you how this happened to me this past summer. I was going to a couple of Dennis Reis horsemanship clinics in Albany Oregon and Puyallup Washington. I made a couple of blog posts about the clinics and I also wanted to give away some free tickets Dennis had given me. Now I mainly did it to increase the numbers in the bleachers as like most clinics or seminars the people that really need the information don’t show up.
Here is what showed up in Google for Albany OR

As you can see I got :
- Blog post
- US freeads posting I made
- A squidoo lens I made
- A sub domain
All on the 1st page of google for the keyword phrase dennis reis albany
Here is what showed up in Google for Puyallup WA

I ended up with 5 listings at the top of google’s 1st page
- my subdomain
- US freeads
- a blog post
- another blog post
- My squidoo lens
How did all these happen? I blogged about it and set up a separate subdomain just for the free tickets, I posted an ad in US freeads, and finally I made a squidoo lens about the Dennis Reis tickets. All very inexpensive or free to do.
Surprise where the hell is Cookville ?
I looked at the list of cities listed in the Dennis Reis tourstop information and saw the name Cookville, thought I see how I did there.

Wow 4 listings for a place I never knew existed, all because my content had the city name in it, so from now on I think I’ll include content like:
The Horse Barn serving all of Whatcom County including
- Bellingham
- Ferndale
- Lynden
- Nooksack
- Blaine
- Sumas
- Maplefalls
- Acme
- Custer
- Cookville ….oops
Well you get the idea, go get it done and start marketing for your local business.
